Strategy & Services: The highly anticipated Golden State Warriors Arena Complex is a new multi-purpose facility and ancillary development for the Golden State Warriors on Block 29 – 32 in Mission Bay, San Francisco. The Complex consists of an arena with approximately 18,000 seats, 2 office towers with ground floor retail, a Gatehouse to introduce visitors to the complex, and abundant open spaces. stok came into the project early with the role of guiding the energy efficiency strategy for the arena and office towers, and further served as full service sustainability consultants for the office towers, providing LEED consulting, daylight and energy modeling analysis, and a comprehensive M&V plan.
Design Details: stok worked alongside the owner, architect, and other design and construction team members to determine the project’s sustainability and performance goals, understand the current status and resources, and implement design strategies that help the project achieve those goals. In particular, stok is providing sustainable design, construction, and operations guidance, including LEED consulting, financial analysis, building performance analysis, and code compliance. stok’s comprehensive work plan was designed to tackle a multitude of challenges that come with a project of this size and complexity. Overcoming the immense challenge posed by such a complex project, stok created one of the most complicated Title-24 energy models in existence to usher it through code compliance. Coordinating documentation from over 50 firms involved on the project, stok ensured that the project went through permitting properly and achieved code compliance, a considerable accomplishment for a project of its size and complexity.
“Coordinating documentation from over 50 firms involved on the project, stok ensured that the project went through permitting properly and achieved code compliance, a considerable accomplishment for a project of its size and complexity.”
Outcome: The project is targeting LEED Gold, and features numerous impressive sustainability features made more impactful by its size. This includes combined greywater and stormwater recycling systems that together result in a 50% reduction in potable water use for plumbing fixtures, translating into millions of gallons, and thus thousands of dollars, saved. The arena is also a leader in transportation innovation, with nearly 500 bike rack locations throughout the complex, and additionally purchased a new Muni car to run more frequent public bus service to the arena and offices. As one of the only recent fully privately financed sports arena projects, this investment in infrastructure solidifies the Golden State Warriors and project team as reliable stewards of the city of San Francisco.
